Icarus on tour in France - Winter 2015

When theatre becomes a kind of magic…

In the wake of the bewitching stagecraft of La Belle et la Bête, Michel Lemieux and Victor Pilon have invested their unique know-how in a contemporary exploration of the myth of Icarus, who plummeted to his death after daring to wear the wax wings fashioned by his father, Daedalus, and then flying too close to the sun. To cast a contemporary light on this myth, rooted in the origins of our civilization, these two magicians of the theatre have teamed up with one of the most brilliant young playwrights of his generation, Olivier Kemeid, whose works display a profound knowledge of the classics and gut-wrenching insight into father-son relationships. Imagine, if you will, a great architect, a man like Daedalus, whose discoveries and innovations have changed the world. Just as he reaches a crucial turning point in his life, his son, Icarus, confronts him with questions about his ambitions, his choices, his life. Preferring the safety of his constructed reality, Daedalus takes refuge in illusions rather than confronting the truth.
